Abstrak

Slow learners tend to be passive, easily distracted, and lack independent study habits at home. This study aimed to improve the study habits of a junior high school slow learner through behavior modification consisting of prompting, positive reinforcement, and fading. A single subject research design (A–B–follow-up) was applied to one seventh-grade student aged 12 (IQ 76, borderline). The intervention was delivered at home for three weeks (three sessions per week, 45–60 minutes each), with the mother as the main companion. The target behavior was home study habit, measured by study frequency and duration. At baseline, the subject studied on three of seven days for 15–40 minutes. During the intervention, the subject studied in every scheduled session for 60–100 minutes. Two weeks after the intervention ended, the subject studied on four of five monitored days for 70–90 minutes. Teachers also reported that the subject began asking questions and taking more complete notes at school. The findings indicate that the intervention package was followed by improved and maintained study habits, although the single-subject design without experimental control limits causal conclusions.
